Where we work · Design District and Showplace Square, San Francisco
Which of your open furniture orders are still waiting on a client deposit?
Interior design is the largest group in our Design District search box: 19 of 41 registered design and architecture locations in city data. I'm Vaughn English, based in the Bay Area, and I work with 5 to 50 person design, architecture, and agency firms in San Francisco. The $350 audit looks at one workflow, like FF&E purchasing, and ends in a written keep, repair, switch, or build recommendation. If we build, the $350 is credited toward it.
The purchasing loop
One chair, seven steps. Where does each one live?
Here is a common path for one FF&E item, and yours may differ: it goes on a proposal, the client approves it, the client pays a deposit, a purchase order goes to the vendor, the vendor confirms a lead time, the piece ships to a receiver, and it is delivered and installed before the final invoice. The audit starts by asking where each of those steps is recorded today.
Questions for a Design District studio
- If a client asks when their sofa ships, how many places does someone check before answering?
- Is a deposit marked as paid in the same place the purchase order is tracked?
- When a vendor pushes a lead time, who updates it, and does the client schedule change with it?
- How many people on the software invoice place orders or log hours each week?
- Which suite features, such as product clipping, client portals, or accounting sync, did anyone use last month?
Suite, spreadsheet, or a small tool you own
Design-business suites bundle proposals, purchase orders, invoicing, and accounting sync in one login. If your team uses most of that every week, a suite can be the right buy, and the audit will say so. If the daily pain is one view, such as which orders wait on a deposit, a ship date, or a receiver, a shared spreadsheet or a small tool your studio owns may cover it for less. The answer depends on your order volume and who touches each order, which is why the audit looks at your real list, not a feature chart.
What it costs
What three interior design tools cost a 5 or 10 person studio.
List prices from each vendor's own pricing page, checked 2026-10-02. Yearly cost if every person has a paid seat. Taxes, payment-processing fees, and any implementation fees are not included, and we did not check them.
| Tool and plan | Published price | 5 people a year | 10 people a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio Designer Essentials | $69 per user per month, billed annually | $4,140 | $8,280 |
| Studio Designer Professional | $79 per user per month, billed annually | $4,740 | $9,480 |
| Studio Designer Premier | $109 per user per month, billed annually | $6,540 | $13,080 |
| Programa Pro | $71 per month with 1 seat, plus $31 per extra seat per month, billed monthly | $2,340 | $4,200 |
| DesignFiles Full Service | $75 per month, plus $30 per extra user per month | $2,340 | $4,140 |
Notes on the table:
- Studio Designer billed monthly is $79, $89, or $119 per user per month. Products and inventory are listed from the Professional plan up, so a purchasing-heavy studio should compare against Professional.
- Programa's page has an annual billing option, but we could not read the annual price, so the table uses the monthly price.
- DesignFiles' $55 e-Design plan does not include invoicing, purchase orders, QuickBooks sync, or time tracking. Those come with Full Service. Enterprise pricing is not published.
- The table assumes every person has a login. If only some of your staff need one, every tool here costs less.
Our guide to per-seat project software walks through how to count the seats you really need before renewal.
The neighborhood
The Design District in the city's own numbers.
The city's Registered Business Locations data has no neighborhood field for the Design District, so we drew our own search box: north 37.7715, west -122.4085, south 37.7655, east -122.3975, about 0.65 square kilometers. Inside it, 41 active locations report one of seven design, architecture, engineering, or agency codes: 19 interior design, 10 architecture, 5 landscape architecture, 5 graphic design, and 2 engineering (exact query). Nearly half are interior design, more than in the other small boxes we drew around Jackson Square (8), Union Square (6), and Dogpatch (8). Larger city neighborhoods such as the Mission have more interior registrations in total, spread over a much bigger area. We first pulled it on 2026-09-29 and re-ran it on 2026-10-02 with the same count. These are registered locations, including sole proprietors and home offices, not people or firm headcounts, and codes are self-reported. The box bounds are ours, not the city's.
The anchor is the San Francisco Design Center at Henry Adams Street. Its site describes "Over eighty showrooms and businesses representing the best of the Bay Area's design community" and "Two thousand makers and manufacturers" (sfdesigncenter.com, checked 2026-10-02). How many of those vendors are on your open orders right now, each with its own lead time?
Next door, our SoMa page covers architecture and engineering firms and what a sales CRM costs per seat.
FAQ
Design District questions.
Do you have an office in the Design District?
No. Workflow Ownership has no office in the Design District or Showplace Square and no public street address. Vaughn English is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and serves San Francisco firms. The audit runs as an online working session.
How many interior design studios are in Showplace Square?
In the city business registry on DataSF, 41 active business locations inside our Design District and Showplace Square search box (about 0.65 square kilometers) report a design, architecture, engineering, or agency code. 19 of them are interior design, nearly half, and more than in any of the other small search boxes we drew (Jackson Square 8, Union Square 6, Dogpatch 8). The rest are 10 architecture, 5 landscape architecture, 5 graphic design, and 2 engineering. We first pulled it on 2026-09-29 and re-ran it on 2026-10-02 with the same result. It counts registered locations, including sole proprietors and home offices, not headcount, and codes are self-reported.
What does Studio Designer cost a 5-person interior design studio?
Studio Designer lists Essentials at $69, Professional at $79, and Premier at $109 per user per month with annual billing (checked 2026-10-02). If all 5 people have a seat, that is $4,140, $4,740, or $6,540 a year. Products and inventory are listed from Professional up. Implementation fees were not checked.
Do I need a full design-business suite to track FF&E orders?
Not always. Studio Designer, Programa, and DesignFiles bundle proposals, purchase orders, invoicing, and accounting sync, and if your team uses most of that every week, a suite can be the right buy. If the daily pain is one thing, such as knowing which orders wait on a deposit or a ship date, a shared spreadsheet or a small tool your studio owns may cover it. The audit looks at what your team actually opens and gives a written keep, repair, switch, or build recommendation.
Is interior design software priced per seat or per studio?
All three tools we checked charge more as you add people. Studio Designer prices per user. Programa Pro is $71 a month including one seat, plus $31 a month per extra seat. DesignFiles Full Service is $75 a month plus $30 a month per extra user. So the question to ask is how many people truly need a login, not how many people work at the studio.
What does the audit cost, and what do we get?
It is $350 for one workflow, such as FF&E purchasing, client deposits, or time tracking. You get a written keep, repair, switch, or build recommendation based on what you pay and what your team actually uses. If we later build a tool for you, the $350 is credited toward the build.

List it with any others your studio pays for, with seats paid and people who use each. I reply within 2 business days with a free one-page cost snapshot, including the questions to ask before renewal. If FF&E purchasing deserves a closer look after that, the $350 audit is the paid step, credited toward a build. The snapshot page lists everything you get.
